A Short Evaluation Of Wal-mart, An American Multinational Retail Corporation

Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart’s success is due to many factors. Initially, the new business was no different from any other. Owner was well versed in industry and knew how to sell things at lower prices than competitors. The owner used international markets to increase the company’s reputation and expand its name. The store did not give up when the public made negative remarks and representations about it. It is because of this that the store has been successful.

Wal-Mark has faced numerous problems over the years, and they continue to do so today. People blamed this company for closing many small shops. It was also a company with many problems. The company did not give enough hours for workers to receive health insurance or other benefits. They also made them work overtime with no compensation. I think that if this store was smaller, it wouldn’t be ridiculed as much. Media coverage was a major factor in bringing the company to light. Although it was a success, many issues were brought to the forefront.

I believe Wal-Mart has changed significantly since Sam Walton’s death. It is clear that the main change will be in how Wal-Mart treats both employees and customers. Walton, a man of high morals, cared deeply for his staff and customers. He personally visited stores to listen to people’s concerns. He did not allow corporate greed to influence him and donated to several foundations. Money wasn’t his motivation. He learned a great deal of his skills from working at JC Penny. He felt he was being underpaid and other things at this store. So he decided to start his own business. Money was less important than his experiences and the good deeds he could do. The company became more greedy and less helpful after his death. They also treated their employees and clients in a less accommodating manner.

The first thing I would change if I became CEO of Wal-Mart Corporation is the way I treat employees. Wal-Mart is a company that earns billions every year and can easily afford to provide medical, vision, and dental care for its employees. I’d work on establishing loyalty programs. And instead of simply throwing away expired or unused food, I’d donate it to charities. Both of these changes, I believe, would make a supermarket more ethical.

I would repair public relations through a broadcast of a video explaining first the issue and then apologizing. I’d ask them to let me know what they want changed and how you can make it better. Many things need to change. It should also care about its clients. It should be sustainable for the planet and also for the company.
